michelle’s bucket list.

I used to have an extensive bucket list but, typically for me, I’ve lost it. I have this bad habit of making lists for absolutely everything that interests me or that I need reminding of, and losing them. So much for organization! So I decided to start fresh and begin compiling my new bucket list. Keep checking back because things will be added and crossed off periodically. What about you guys? What is at the top of your bucket lists?

TRAVEL TO ALL SEVEN CONTINENTS. I would like to hit up all seven continents. Apart from that, I’m willing to go anywhere and everywhere, when the time is right. North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, Antarctica.

HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE OVER AFRICA. I’m not sure why I want to do this. I’m scared of heights and you’ll notice that a few of these are steps toward overcoming that. But I think it would be so amazing and peaceful to be floating over the plains of Africa.

VOLUNTEER WITH ELEPHANTS AND CHIMPANZEES AND ANIMAL RESCUE. One of these I have already done, in 2011, but would like to do over and over again so it will stay up here forever. Next would be chimps because their resemblance to humans fascinate me and, let’s face it, how adorable are they! Next would be an animal rescue or rehabilitation with all types of animals – dogs, lions, eagles, you name it.

VOLUNTEER IN AN ORPHANAGE. I’ve always loved children and for as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to help out and contribute something to developing countries, either at an orphanage for young kids or with street youth, or in a community development program.

SPEND MY BIRTHDAY ABROAD.  I had my first birthday in England, celebrated my nineteenth birthday in Florence, Italy and turned twenty-one in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

VOLUNTEER/WORK IN CHILD SOLDIER REHABILITATION. I learned about child soldiers when I was thirteen years old and that was one of the main issues that led me to pursue a career in social work. Working in a child soldier rehabilitation program is one of my top career related goals.

SCUBA DIVE/BECOME A LICENSED SCUBA DIVER. Completed in Koh Tao, Thailand, July 2012. This is a fairly recent bucket list addition, as of about eight months ago. I can get a bit claustrophobic in certain situations so the thought of being under water like that sort of freaks me out, but at the same time it’s probably so surreal.

TRAVEL SOLO. My first solo traveling experience was when I backpacked through Europe in 2010 at the age of eighteen. I left home and began my trip alone, although I met up with a friend from home a month in and traveled with her for part of it. My second time traveling alone was in 2011 when I went to Thailand for three weeks. This time, I was solo for the whole duration.

PARTICIPATE IN A HOLI FESTIVAL.  Completed 2015 in Barbados.

ATTEND HOLI IN INDIA. A beautiful festival involving battles of colors. Yes, please.

STAND-UP PADDLEBOARDING. Completed in Vancouver, B.C, summer of 2014.

SWIM WITH WHALES/MANTA RAYS. Can people swim with whales? Like grey whales and orcas? I’ve seen pictures, and so I want to do it. Whales are a love of mine that I shared with a family member when I was little and I would be thrilled to get up close and personal with those giants. Also, mantas are so velvety soft and adorable, so they’re on the list too.

GO ON AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL DIG. I LOVELOVELOVELOVE exploring ruins and artifacts and learning the history about them. My time in Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Rome blew my mind. I’ve heard of some volunteer archaeological digs, so I’d love to do one of those.

HAVE A MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION WITH A STRANGER. This happened last summer, 2011, on a 13 hour overnight bus ride in Thailand. I ended up sitting beside a lovely British boy. His name was Alex, he was from Bristol and he had the bluest eyes I have ever seen. That is all that I know about him, but we spent that bus ride talking about our dreams, ambitions, and the meaning of life, revealing things that we had yet to tell our family or friends. It seems easier to say some things to a stranger, maybe because we knew we would never see each other again?

SLEEP IN A HAUNTED BUILDING/SLEEP IN A CASTLE. Completed in Scotland, 2010. A haunted building and a castle at the same time! A haunted castle!

BE ABLE TO SUPPORT MYSELF FINANCIALLY. There is nothing worse than being dependent on another human being. I hate the feeling of owing people back. I do not want to be rich, I just want to live a comfortable life and not have to constantly worry about finances. And I want that feeling of comfort and security to be because I earned it for myself, not because I’m being supported by another person’s income.

LIVE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY..Spent five months living in Barbados January-June 2015, university exchange.

EXPERIENCE CARNIVAL IN TRINIDAD.

STUDY ABROAD.Completed January-May 2015 at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in Barbados.

HIKE TO MACHU PICCHU. This would be challenging and fun and also… ruins at the top!

GO PARASAILING. Completed in Cancun, Mexico, 2010

ROAD TRIP THROUGH THE U.S.A. I live in Canada and have only been to the states once in my life. Shame on me. I’d love to see it all by car though.

WORK IN AUSTRALIA. …For an unknown amount of time. All of the aussie’s I’ve met have been extraordinary people and Australia looks so stunning, warm and inviting. But expensive, so it’s probably smart to work.

CROPOVER IN BARBADOS.

SWIM WITH SEA TURTLES Completed in Barbados, 2015, while on exchange.

OWN AN ACREAGE AND SOME HORSES. When I decide to settle down, somewhere in the very distant future, I’d like an acreage, a small but cute house, and horses because they are one thing that makes me instantly happy.

EAT A MUFFIN ON DRURY LANE. Do you know the muffin man, the muffin man, the muffin man, do you know the muffin man who lives on drury lane. Completed in London, 2010.

GRADUATE UNIVERSITY. Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.

PAY FOR ANOTHER PERSON’S GROCERIES. I just think that would be the nicest gesture. And if one day I can spare a hundred bucks to randomly pay for the person’s groceries in front of me, I will.

LEARN HOW TO RIDE A MOTORBIKE.

SEE ONE OF THE 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD.  Saw the Colosseum in Rome, summer of 2010. Also saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa, summer of 2010.(Both from the Medieval World List of 7 Wonders).

    1. Yes! The idea of scuba diving slightly terrifies me because you can’t just come back up to surface right away, but the sheer amazingness of it completely weight that out.

  1. Great bucket list.
SCUBA is awesome, you should do it!

So whats up next on this list of yours?

  2. Well, I’m heading back to Thailand in about a month and am going to Cambodia and Vietnam as well so I’m thinking I’ll be able to cross a few things off: Angkor Wat, kayaking in the ocean, scuba diving, send a message in a bottle(?), cooking class, trapeze. Cue my insane excitement!
